In the beginning it was just two crazy kids in love, then marriage, then a business was born. With Mike’s background in cabinetry and Kasey’s eye for design, this was a match made in heaven. Mike and Kasey Snodgrass have been married for seven years. Shortly after tying the knot, Cabinets, Etc. was established. Mike and his team build and install the cabinets; Kasey works with designers and builders to create the artistic touch. To say the least, business is good in West Texas. Shown here, a kitchen’s stovetop hood vent is finished with Tundra Gold MetalGlow®, then glazed with Copper Dutch Metal™, Dark Brown FauxCrème Color™ and Blue Green and Light Green Aqua Verdigris. A glaze using Dark Brown and Earth Brown FauxCreme Color™ was applied over PlasterTex® and AquaStone® to give a stone look to the base of the vent hood.

A unique course of action between Cabinets, Etc. and the architect/builder happened in this particular kitchen of builder James Hill. The island was stained with American Walnut Stain & Seal™, then topped with a Sage Green SetCoat® and CrackleMate™ crackle finish. Afterward, Kasey distressed the piece with custom tools and sanded it until smooth. Kasey finished the project with American Walnut Stain & Seal™ mixed with AquaCrème™.

The inspiration behind another house is the small California town of Montecito. The architect, homeowner, designer, builder and artist all agreed upon an eclectic mix of Mediterranean and antique looks. Jeff Seal, architect and homebuilder, has very elegant tastes, and the successful collaboration between Cabinets, Etc. and Jeff is evident. Cabinet design concepts were submitted, and Mike made sure of its functionality and durability. Cabinets, Etc. used only the best technology in hardware and tools to build these precise cabinets. Kasey consulted with Jeff on the finishes for each piece, and then submitted the finish samples for approval. When a finish was chosen, the work began! An ordinary white hutch was custom finished using Golden Oak and Rich Brown Stain & Seal™, Crème Activator™, Neutral White SetCoat®, AquaSize™, AquaCrackle® Clear and Van Dyke Brown FauxCrème Color™. When fully dry, a coat of C-500™ was applied for protection. Kasey’s process for the majority of these finishes is similar; it can take several layers to complete a finish. Kasey used a number of Faux Effects® products to complete the look of this kitchen. By using some homemade tools, she distressed the bare wood. Kasey followed this process with Honey Pine Stain & Seal™ and then applied Crème Activator™. SetCoat® PTS New Castle (3556) was sprayed over the surface, allowed to set and then removed in areas to reveal the base color. More Crème Activator™ plus AquaSize™ was brushed on. SetCoat® PTS Arlington (3557) was brushed on and scraped away again to expose the underlying colors and when dry, a glaze of Earth Brown FauxCreme Color™ and AquaCreme™ antiques the finish. Rachel Wilkinson, interior designer, put together the final touches on the kitchen to make it absolutely gorgeous! A cabinet containing a hidden television shelf was finished in the same manner as the hutch.

Golden Oak, Antique Mahogany, Van Dyke Brown and American Walnut Stain & Seal™ were used to complete wooden doors with horse head embellishments. AquaWax™ was used to seal the doors, giving them a luxurious sheen. The cabinets and bar in this area were treated to a finish of Rich Brown, Golden Oak and Pickling White Stain & Seal™ mixed into AquaWax™, which was brushed on. The finish was then toned with a glaze of Van Dyke Brown FauxCreme Color™ and AquaCreme™. Back in the James Hill house, the buffet was distressed with a grinder, then finished using Golden Oak and Antique Mahogany Stain & Seal™. Areas were shadowed with American Walnut and Van Dyke Brown Stain & Seal™ and coated with two coats of AquaWax™ for protection, one coat being tinted with American Walnut Stain & Seal™. On the walls of this room, SetCoat® PTS Timothy Seed (3377) was used as the base for a rolled-on coat of PlasterTex®. When dry, AquaStone® was applied through a stencil. A glaze of AquaCreme® and Dark Brown FauxCreme Color™ ages the finish.

The bathroom of a builder’s spec house contains a number of finishes using Faux Effects® products. Super Metallic Silver SetCoat®, Silver and Gold Palette Deco™ and Dark Brown FauxCreme Color™ were all used to create a rich wall finish. An old world cabinet finish received an up-to-date twist by applying Neutral White SetCoat®, AquaCreme™ and Williamsburg Blue Stain & Seal™ with a glaze of Metallic Pearl and Dark Brown FauxCreme Color™.

Toasted Cognac StucoLux™ brings opulence to an understated ceiling in this great room. A two-tone finish of O’Villa® Finishing Plaster was applied to the walls using crosshatch technique, and the stone columns—wait, look—it’s StucoLux™! A combination of Putty, Safari and Sandalwood StucoLux™ was used to transform ordinary columns into marble wonders. A final coating of Old World Venetian Wax™ adds protection and produces a satiny sheen. The bases and capitals were finished with Mocha Gold MetalGlow® and glazed with Van Dyke Brown and American Walnut Stain & Seal™ as the ending touch.

Mike and Kasey Snodgrass of Cabinets, Etc.—their business relationship is a perfect collaboration of exquisite cabinetry and superior finishes.
