Recently returning to her homeland in the former Yugoslavia and the coast of Dalmatia, Marijeta brought her artistic talents to the little town of Markarska where her grandparents owned a beautiful 285-year-old house. Having the never-ending need to experiment, Marijeta spends her time enjoying every second on new art creations using different Faux Effects® materials, which are not so known widely in that part of the world. Many tourists and locals visit her Imagine Art Gallery and are very interested in her works and in Faux Effects® and their products. “It was like a dream come true when I was permitted to open a gallery in the courtyard of my own house. It was an ‘Alice in Wonderland’ improvisation that turned into a beautiful, friendly environment with pure energy that everybody appreciated,” she describes.
Dancer, poet, actress and most notably an accomplished artist, Marijeta Lozina gets her creative motivation from the sights and locales across the globe. “I am very connected with the ocean and the Adriatic Sea. It gives me inspiration for art,” says Marijeta. Raised in the Netherlands, England and Croatia, she claims herself to be a “citizen of the world” stationed in the United States and Croatia at this point in time.
Marijeta’s love of the water is evident in many of her art pieces. LusterStone® and translucent FauxColor™ were used to make “Right Turn,” showing ship’s voyage across a turbulent sea. A smart Parisian purchased her seaside landscape titled “City of Split, ” created using various colors of Venetian Gem®, LusterStone®, and FauxColor™.
An angler fish named “Grandpa” comes to life using LusterStone® with accents of Designer FoilFX™ to highlight. Her work also includes land animals— elephants created with LusterStone® and Designer FoilFX™ look as if they are crossing the African plains at dusk.
People play a part of Marijeta’s artwork as well. This past year, she was invited to “Arté Not,” an international art show in Italy where 16 of her pieces were exhibited. During Arté Not, Marijeta displayed her talent by body painting receptive models, displaying her work on walking canvases so to speak. On physical canvas, Marijeta uses her favorite Faux Effects® products—LusterStone®, FauxColor™ and Designer FoilFX™.
With these, she created many pieces, including her favorite portrait of Audrey Hepburn and “Spectacular,” a drawing from Bryan Stafford (an artist from the Philadelphia Art Institute of Pittsburgh), finished with Espresso LusterStone® and foil work.
Marijeta took her first Faux Effects® class several years ago from Craig Fry in Georgetown, South Carolina. “Always amazed with every single product and its durability, I knew there was a range of endless possibilities to do. And there was no stopping—from glass to wood, to stone and canvas I began to create art.” Marijeta’s artwork incorporates many different Faux Effects® products, including LusterStone®, FauxColor™ and Designer FoilFX™. “I had an idea, a dream, a vision— and it happened. Everything in our lives that we do with love in our hearts gives us pleasure and opens another door. When I was introduced by Barb Skivington to foils by Faux Effects®, I had an immediate vision I had to pursue,” she relates.
Marijeta attended the Art Institute for Graphic and Industrial Design in Belgrade (now in Serbia), and then moved to the United States to work for Sidney Arthur doing hand-painted artwork on furniture pieces. Her career path took Marijeta along other furniture related venues. She became an art director for Country Elegance, producing designs for French provincial styled furniture; then was employed by the Institute America, working in graphic design for their furniture catalogs. From there, she created designs for Hooker Furniture through Chris Hankins, and for some time she was a photographer at Olan Mills Portrait Studio. Marijeta’s furniture finishes for Pamela Wright “Design Solutions” at the High Point Furniture Market incorporate SandStone™, Venetian Gem®, AquaCrackle® Fine Line and FauxColor™.
Currently, Marijeta’s artwork can be seen at Shaines Galleries in downtown High Point, North Carolina, Makarska, Croatia, and, due to Barb Skivington’s tutelage and assistance, at numerous exhibitions in Raleigh and Charlotte, North Carolina. Her fine art is showcased in Greensboro at Bailey's on Elm, The Vino Shoppe and De Been Coffee Shop. The owners of the Smokes and Puffs, a smoke shop in High Point, North Carolina, wanted a focal point in their commercial establishment. Marijeta’s imaginative creativity produced just what they desired—an impressive counter-front art piece that draws customers into their store.
Artists and art-lovers around the world have taken notice of Marijeta’s creative gifts. Celebrated sculptor Steve LeGrand recently wrote, “Marijeta Lozina’s work illustrates the creative brilliance of her beautiful soul. Blending the essence of ocean depth with celestial tones, she transcends the chains of time and sets one’s thoughts on the path of spiritual discovery.”
What moves me … Pleasure in creation. What makes me create … Love released from self. What inspires me…Happiness and sadness. People the most, this world and beyond. I love people. Making them happy makes me happy. People are the part of this world, and we should love what we are. Life is the way we see it, and this world is the mirror of our own thoughts. We are all different. The beauty of difference creating balance. With that in mind, I create with love in my heart making art. ~ Marijeta Lozina
