The Macaluso Custom Design team of Brenda and Kylie Macaluso recently completed a large project for a stunning private residence. Being that the home has a very good flow from room to room, it was important that the color scheme followed suit. The entrance was treated with a variety of finishes to complement the grandeur of the space. The front door is finished in Woody Yellow SetCoat®, glazed with Antique Mahogany and American Walnut Stain & Seal™, and detailed with Dark Brown FauxCrème Color Concentrate™. The leather skin inserts were made using Tiger Eye Venetian Gem®, Surfaces’ Crocodile Roller, along with the same Stain & Seal™ colors used on the surround. Foyer columns were done in RsStone® with Silver and Bronze Designer FoilFX™ peeking out underneath. The capitals and bases are painted with Metallic Bronze SetCoat®, and then the entire columns were glazed with again Antique Mahogany and American Walnut Stain & Seal™.
Brown Suede LusterStone™ complements the coordinating dining room. The same LusterStone® was used to fill in the wainscoting panels, while the molding was highlighted with variegated leafing. The effect was repeated on the crown molding, and all the wood was aged and detailed with American Walnut Stain & Seal™. For the tray ceiling, Tiger Eye Venetian Gem® was applied over the entire space. While still wet, silk leaves were embedded into the surface, and the patterns were subtly picked up with an application of gold, bronze and celadon foils before highlighting with a glaze of American Walnut Stain & Seal™.
Walls in the formal living room match the entry walls in this open concept floor plan. A layer of Espresso Chocolate LusterStone® was flat troweled over the surface followed by a layer of Antique Parchment and Champagne Mist LusterStone®, all troweled together. A glaze of AquaCreme™ with American Walnut Stain & Seal™ was used to antique the finish. To keep continuity throughout the home (and because it’s a beautiful finish!) the same technique was used in the main floor master bedroom.
Keeping with the same color scheme, the kitchen cabinets were darkened with a stain of FXThinner™ tinted with Antique Mahogany and American Walnut Stain & Seal™. The kitchen and adjoining family room walls were textured with AquaStone® followed by a three-color glaze in Dark Brown and Earth Brown FauxCrème Color™ and American Walnut Stain & Seal™. The fireplace mantle and bookcase were darkened to match the kitchen cabinets, and all the cabinetry was then sealed with Varnish Plus™ for a uniform sheen and added protection. Even the fireplace tile got a fresh update by starting with PrimEtch™ and then Palette Deco™ in Metallic Bronze and Metallic Silver. A Bark Roller from Surfaces was used to create the alternating tile patterns bringing even more dimension to the finish.
